Number 1: Do a thorough cleaning of your car and take out anything that is not necessary. The more stuff that weighs down your car the more strain it puts on the engine.
Number 2: Take a look at your cars owner’s manual and on use the recommended octane rated gasoline. It is not always true that a higher octane rating will lead to better gas mileage.
Number 3: Don’t let your car sit and idle for long periods of time. As your car idle’s, all your doing is tossing money out the window.
Number 4: Don’t drive like a maniac and keep your speed in line with the speed limit’s. Driving erratically involving sudden acceleration will suck gas out of your tank very quickly.
Number 5: It is a good idea to check your gas cap and make sure it has a good seal. If your gas cap is loose then the gas can evaporate easily leading to a loss of fuel.
Number 6: Check your air filter and make sure it is clean with each oil change. When your air filter is clogged it can dampen the fuel efficiency of the engine.
Number 7: Head down to your local mechanic and make sure that your oxygen sensors are working correctly. When you have a bad oxygen sensor it will supply more gas than needed to the engine.
There are a lot of individuals who have witnessed great increases in fuel economy with these tips. Be sure to keep them in mind the next time you go to fill up your car. There are other ways to improve gas mileage but these are some of the best. It only takes a moment to perform some of these ideas but they can save you a nice amount of money in the long run. Help answer the question about Hydrogen Engine
Can a gas engine run off of hydrogen?
I have a homemade hydrogen generator and I am trying to install it on my go kart because I don't want to pay for the gas to make it run. Can i hook it up to my go kart engine and make it run without buying any kits? If so how?
