E3 Spark Plugs E3.12 Small Engine and Lawn & Garden Spark Plug , Pack of 1
- Near elimination of performance inhibiting carbon deposits, dramatically longer plug life and limited warranty for the lifetime of the first engine the plug is installed in
- DiamondFire electrode technology that creates a superior spark and resulting flame front extending further into the cylinder, producing more localized pressure
- Significant potential power increase: > 6% to 12% (depending on engine class)
- Significant potential fuel efficiency improvement: > 4% to 13% (depending on engine class)
- Drastic potential emissions reduction when used in 2 and 4-stroke engines (after 50 hours): 58% CO emissions reduction, 42% hydrocarbon reduction
The exceptional performance of the E3 spark plug starts with the unique open architecture of the E3 electrode. The design forces air gap discharges, creates the preferred edge-to-edge spark path, allows free replenishment of the spark zone with a fresh fu
| E3 Lawn & Garden and Small Engine spark plugs are a clear breakthrough in spark plug technology. Developed by researchers from leading engineering universities, E3′s patented electrode design allows for a better spark, and resulting more complete flame kernal and flame front extending off the electrode, producing better overall localized pressure inside your small engine’s cylinder(s). This in turn leads to the fuel/air mixture injected into the cylinder being more cleanly consumed, lessening the level of greenhouse gases emitted, increasing energy efficiency and generating more horsepower.
Why You Need E3 Spark Plugs DiamondFire Technology First, the DiamondFire electrode directs the flame kernel to the piston more directly, reducing the travel time from the spark zone to the end gases via the open section at the top of the electrode. Given the short time available to get combustion started, the faster you can get the flame to the piston, the better. Second, the physical features of the electrode project further forward into the combustion chamber. This brings the spark zone closer to areas of probable “good” air/fuel mixture and also creates beneficial “micro-aerodynamics” within the spark zone. The initial combustion wave leaves the spark area at supersonic speeds above Mach 1, and the elevated edge provides a kind of chimney effect so the next round of air/fuel mixture gets into the spark zone more easily. Finally, the E3 electrode design features forced edge-to-edge spark discharge, which is the best way to get a spark to leave a surface. This improves upon the phenomena that drove race car drivers to “cut back” ordinary electrode spark plugs in order to improve the spark discharge. The spark itself occurs only when an avalanche of electrons migrates from the two electrodes (anode to cathode). Sharp edges are better at initiating electron migrations, and these accelerated electrons collide with matter inside the spark zone to release additional electrons. This design ensures that the whole population of electrons works to create a plasma channel through which the spark current flows more easily, resulting in an increase in both power output and fuel economy, while reducing emissions in gasoline engines and the build up of carbon deposits on engine surfaces. I know it seems impossible, but I put one of these in my toro lawnmower and it really does start more easily and it is using less gas too. If I fill the tank and mow, it always leaves puddles of gas in the bottom of the tank when I am done, it is almost empty. But after installing the E3 plug and mowing the same grass, there was enough gas in the tank to cover the entire bottom. I don’t know what percentage that would be, but the mower used less gas than with the champion plug. Also, previous to installing the E3 plug, my mower would start on the first or second pull, it starts on the first pull every time now. The other day I mowed damp long grass and the mower was able to mulch without bogging, it wouldn’t have been able to so with the old plug. I just bought one of these for the weedwacker and some for the car, hope they work as well in those engines as they did in the mower. The difference in the mower was noticable.
Eight months later, still going strong, no need to regap. I put one of these in my string trimmer too and it works great.

I’m beginning my 3rd season using these E3.12 plugs in a John Deere with a 20hp Kawasaki engine, 2 Husqvarna chain saws and a Stihl hedge trimmer, pole saw and backpack blower. I’ve not had any problems. I used to change out CJ8 plugs at least once a year. The Lifetime Guarantee will have to prove out for me to accept it, even so, I’d be satisfied with 5 years of service. One other point of interest: Whenever you see a 1-Star review, see all of that person’s reviews. You’ll be surprised how many times that review is the only review they’ve ever submitted. To me, that raises a question of credibility. If two chain saws were destroyed by these plugs as one reviewer claims, I’d like to know what brand of chain saws they were. E3 Plugs are not magic potions that will solve the problems of an engine which has not been well maintained. I’ve seen cracked cylinders on relatively new, cheap saws like Craftsman, McCullough and Homelite for no apparent reason. As it is, since I personally have not seen anything except improved performance in my equipment, I’m ordering a few more E3.12 plugs.

Certainly a new spark plug would improve the startability of my Craftsman chainsaw. When I removed the old one, it seemed to be in fairly good shape, though. I also cleaned the air filter and the saw generally, and I’m sure that contributed to the improved starting performance, but it seems to me that it now starts better than it did when it was new. At Amazon’s price it was well worth it, at some of the retail prices I’ve seen, I’m not so sure.

In January 2009, we installed two E3 sparkplugs in our chainsaws. Both of the electrodes broke off; then the broken off metal parts entered into the cylinder and damaged it and the piston. Now, our two chain saws are destroyed. I will never use an E3 sparkplug in any engine of mine.

On a new stock spark plug, my lawn mower would run out of gas with about 10% of the lawn left. After switching to the E3 plug, I could do the lawn on one tank and the mower seemed just little bit more able to power through the thicker parts of the lawn without dying.
It gets four stars for two reasons:
1. It’s expensive.
2. It seems to wear a little faster than a conventional plug.
Despite its drawbacks, I use this plug exclusively in my small engines.
